House Training

    HOUSE SOILING PROBLEMS

A major concern for dog owners. Any Canine who fails to eliminate in proper designated location makes life miserable. Once a location has been chosen, the pet will often reuse it. The undesirable spot is often a closet, bed or dirty clothes pile, which provides materials to hide the “mistake” in.

A puppy probably has no concept of what being house trained is. The owner must teach rules and behaviors. Crate training is the most effective way to house train a puppy.

Were incorrect methods used to train?

Paper training works poorly and encourages dog to go inside house.

Screaming and yelling insures a puppy will never be trained.

Was the pet always outdoors before?

     Teach the rules.

Dominant and territorial dogs don’t have “accidents”. They’re

     marking territory.

He’s telling you he’s the boss.

Sticking his nose in his accident will teach the dog to eat it or hide it

     another way.

Is the dog sick? Geriatric?

Solutions:  (depending on the situations)   New puppies or adopted dogs.

Treat as if new at house training. Use a crate and create a routine and train to go on command. Keep on a leash, if dog squats, correct and take outside. Praise and repeat command when dog goes. A dog needs to go six weeks without an accident before you can consider it a success. Clean a mess thoroughly, use a neutralizer on it.

MARKING-NEUTER.    Keep on leash and correct

SICK AND OLD DOGS.  See the Vet. Rx available that could help.

      Create an outdoor pen.
